KARACHI, March 12: The Sindh chapter of National Alliance has expressed concern over scarcity of water and called for the release of more water than the province’s quota.
The demand came at a meeting of the NA, Sindh, which was chaired by Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh.
After discussing various issues, the meeting called for the immediate lifting of ban on recruitment. It described the opposition’s protest against the Legal Framework Order (LFO) ‘uncalled for’ and observed that the campaign was aimed at gaining political mileage.
The meeting endorsed the government’s stand on the Iraq crisis and described the PM’s address to the nation as ‘a manifestation of the aspirations of people’.
Provincial chief of the alliance, Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh, who is also a minister in Sindh cabinet, pointed out that neither the government nor the opposition in the National Assembly enjoyed two-third majority. As such, he advised, both the sides should sit across the table to sort out constitutional matters in an atmosphere of understanding.
The meeting appealed to people of Sindh to maintain sectarian harmony and demonstrate unity and cohesion.
Names of the new office-bearers of the NA’s provincial setup were also announced in the meeting. They are: Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi (President), Khalid Mumtaz and Kishan Chand (VPs), Amin Khattak (GS),Abdul Sami Khan (Addl GS) and Naeemur Rehman (Information Secretary).
