LAHORE, March 11: Four goals by Ahmad Ali steered Shahpur into the final of the Spring Cup polo tournament after beating Black Berets (BB) 8-6 in the first semifinal on Tuesday.
Playing with a two goal-handicap, BB further extended the lead 3-0 by scoring a field goal through Ahsen Javed Sher.
Minutes later, Ahmad opened his account to reduce the margin 3-1 before the chukker ended.
BB held onto their lead 4-3 at the end of the second chukker despite conceding two goals and scoring a goal.
Ahmad scored his second goal while teammate Omer Nazir who also scored two goals in the match, struck his first. For BB the lone goal was scored by Ahsan.
Shahpur took the lead (5-4) for the first time in the third chukker by scoring two goals. Ahmad scored his third while Omer his second.
The fourth chukker was full of goals as five attempts were successful, three by Shahpur and two by BB.
The losers dominated the first five minutes of the chukker scoring back to back goals. Ahsan scored his third goal followed by a goal from Kamran Zaidi which again put them 6-5 ahead.
But a three-goal rally by Shahpur turned the tables over their rivals, with striking Asif Yar Tiwana struck a field goal to equalise 6-6. Ahmad banged home his fourth goal to put Shahpur 7-6 ahead and in the dying minutes Atif Yar Tiwana found the net and increased the tally 8-6.
Earlier, in the subsidiary semifinal, three goals each by Azhar Ali and Hussain Iftikhar helped Dark Horse defeat Sherwood by eight goals to 5 1/2.
Omar Sadiq and Jamal Iftikhar scored a goal each for the winners.
For Sherwood who were playing with one and half goal on handicap, Shahzad Aziz scored two goals while Adnan Lone and Talat Zia had a goal each.
