HYDERABAD, March 7: The authorities of the Hyderabad Cantonment Board seem to have turned a blind eye to some basic civic problems of the people residing in the Cantonment area.
The absence of street lights, an increase in the number of pye dogs and accumulation of rainwater in the Cantonment Graveyard are some of the basic problems which are causing a host of problems for the residents.
The halogen lamps on the main Fatima Jinnah Road — where important buildings, including the high court, the sessions court, the district council, the district treasury office, the National Bank of Pakistan, PTCL Customer Service Centre and other residential areas are located — are missing.
Although electric poles exist on these roads but they are in a bad shape. However, the officials don’t seem to be bothered about it.
The roads, including Miran Mohammad Shah Road, where the post office, the SSP office, Radio Pakistan and the Hyderabad Press Club are situated, are also without any street lights. Whether the power supply to these poles has been disconnected or they are defective nobody knows.
The electric poles on Fatima Jinnah Road remained in working order for quite some time after they were set up 10 years back.
Although these roads pass through the posh locality of the HCB, yet they remain plunged in darkness.
There is not a single streetlight on the road leading to the Shah Faisal Colony, which has a large number of people who are registered voters of the HCB.
The irony is that a large number of junior and senior officers are residing in the limits of the HCB but they are apparently least bothered to take notice of these issues.
The absence of street lights has made riding for motorcyclists a difficult task as they have to face the full glare of the lights of the motorists and other heavy vehicles, which exposes them to danger. The Cantonment Graveyard is in a pathetic condition after accumulation of rainwater.
