LONDON, March 7: A London court on Friday sentenced a Muslim religious figure to nine years in jail after his conviction last month for advocating murder of non-Muslims.
The court recommended that 39-year-old Abdullah el-Faisal be deported after serving the sentence.
Mr Faisal, a Jamaican citizen with a British wife and children, was convicted on Feb 24 of calling for the murder of Jews, Hindus and Americans. He is the first Muslim preacher to be tried in Britain for his teachings.
In his preachings, Mr Faisal had told his followers that the way forward was “the bullet, not the ballot”.
