BEIJING, Feb 21: Pakistan and China on Friday agreed that they would continue to maintain close coordination and understanding on all matters of bilateral, regional and international interest.

The agreement was reached at a meeting held between Foreign Secretary Riaz H. Khokhar and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The matters discussed included India-Pakistan relations and Iraq crisis. A Pakistan embassy official Mohammad Naeem Khan told APP that the two sides had complete unanimity of views on all matters of bilateral concern.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral ties and decided to continue their efforts to enhance cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

Mr Wang lauded Pakistan’s efforts for peace and seeking settlement of its disputes with India through dialogue. Appreciating Pakistan’s role in fight against terrorism, he said China greatly valued its friendship with Pakistan and wished to maintain it under all circumstances.

Mr Khokhar also had a meeting with Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan during which he briefed him about Pakistan’s position on various regional and international issues.

He conveyed greetings and good wishes of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali to the Chinese leadership. Mr Tang said the Chinese government attached great importance to its relations with Pakistan.

Pakistan ambassador to China Riaz Mohammad Khan was present during the talks.

Mr Khokhar is on a three-day visit to China on the invitation of Mr Wang.

He is scheduled to proceed to Malaysia on Sunday to join the entourage of President Musharraf at the Non-Aligned Movement summit.
