ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has allocated Rs34 million for upgradation and enhancement of IT and networking facilities at the University of Peshawar.

According to a press release, the project, which was approved by the HEC’s Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP), would be completed in a period of two years.

The HEC has launched the project as part of its efforts to improve the quality of education and research through exchange of information between institutions of higher learning.

The main objective of this scheme is to promote IT culture at higher education level, which will ultimately improve the working of various government departments.

Under the project, the university will be completely automated by linking all offices, departments, colleges and hostels at the campus electronically through modern and fast techniques. The university will also be connected with the government as well as private sector organizations. The project will provide easy access to modern communication systems and facilitate exchange of ideas, information and other resources amongst teachers, researchers, officials and students of the university promoting IT culture.

About 2,000 employees and 15,000 students will benefit from the project and will be facilitated by modern working environment to compete in the world of IT.
