KARACHI, Feb 18: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) has appealed to the Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister, Sardar Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar, and provincial Education Minister, Irfanullah Khan Marwat, to help solve the problems being faced by the teachers.
The Association also demanded a 100 per cent increase in the salaries and allowances of the teachers and exempting them from income tax.
It called for the promotions of 467 college teachers, DPEs and 140 librarians under the four tier formula.
The SPLA stressed the need for filling in the 1,000 vacant posts of lecturers, immediately.
It said that the college teachers observed a protest day on Tuesday to press for the acceptance of their demands.
They also urged the authorities to immediately arrest the killers of Prof Naseeruddin, a retired principal of Government Degree College Liaquatabad and compensation be paid to the bereaved family.—APP
