KARACHI, Feb 17: City Nazim Naimatullah has said that the government will take all possible steps to maintain law and order in the city, and those involved in brutal murders would not go unpunished.

Speaking at a ceremony of handing over machinery to North Karachi Town on Monday, he said certain elements had started hatching conspiracies to disturb peaceful atmosphere in the city and referred to the murder of MQM leader Khalid bin Waleed and others in last few days.

Naimatullah Khan said he had fulfilled the promises made to the people of Karachi during the last 18 months.

He said city government had sought permission for the levy of road user fee and sea tax in Karachi to generate funds for implementing more development projects in the city, but the permission was not granted by the federal government.

In addition to this, the promised grant in lieu of these two taxes had also not been given, so far, he said.

Earlier, speaking at a computer training programme, organized by International Science & Technology Organization, he stressed that science and technology be used for welfare of humanity.—PPI
