KARACHI: Suspect killed in ‘encounter’

KARACHI, Feb 10: A suspected bandit was shot dead and his accomplice was arrested in Federal B Area on Monday, during what the police claimed an encounter.

The police said two armed men barged into a chicken shop in the main Samnabad market and were busy looting cash.

Four policemen riding two motorcycles saw the bandits looting the shop. An exchange of fire took place between the bandits and the police in which one of the bandits, identified as Jimmy, was shot dead. The other bandit, Mohammed Aijaz, was arrested unhurt.

The police claimed to have recovered two pistols from Aijaz’s possession. Jimmy’s body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

ROAD ACCIDENT: An unidentified man died in a hit-and-run accident on Hub River Road late Sunday night.

The police said an unidentified pedestrian was run over by an unknown speeding vehicle. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The vehicle sped off after the accident.
