HYDERABAD, Feb 8: Sindh Hari Committee president Azhar Jatoi has opposed rehabilitation of displaced people of the Tarbela Dam in Sindh.

He demanded the price of sugarcane, rice and wheat should be fixed at Rs70, Rs300 and Rs350 per 40kg, respectively.

He was speaking at a meeting, held in Khathar near here on Friday in connection with the Save Agriculture Movement of the peasant organization.

Terming the October general elections a farce, Mr Jatoi said the Sindh government was operating through “a remote control” from Islamabad. He said provincial ministers and chief ministers were puppets and the prime minister had no power.

Mr Jatoi deplored land of Sindh was being given to the outsiders.

Urging the people to launch a struggle against construction of the Kalabagh dam and Thal canal, he said the projects would affect 40 million people of Sindh.

He alleged the establishment of robbing Sindh of its resources and water share.

About tribal disputes in the province, Mr Jatoi said they were engineered and aimed at creating differences among the Sindhi people.

He accused Islamabad of promoting bandit culture in Sindh.

He said very existence of peasants was in danger and agriculture sector of the province was destroyed.

Speaking on the occasion, general-secretary of the peasants organization, Shaheed Soomro, said artificial shortage of water had destroyed agriculture sector of the province.

The meeting adopted several resolutions, criticizing rehabilitation of displaced persons of the Tarbela Dam in Sindh, construction of the Kalabagh dam and Thal canal, and demanding compensation to the displaced people of the Chotiari Dam.

JSM-Z: Jeay Sindh Mahaz-Z chairman Syed Zain Shah has criticized Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad for the statement he made in Lahore.

Mr Shah said instead of presenting the case of Sindh, the governor had tried to give an impression that political elements had created misunderstandings against Punjab.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, the JSM-Z leader said Sindh had been subjected to excesses by Punjab for the last 53 years.
