LAHORE, Feb 4: The Lahore High Court ordered the District Police Officer (DPO) on Tuesday to register a case against a DSP and three police officials for torturing a man during illegal confinement.
Salma Bibi submitted in her petition that police had on January 22 taken away her husband, Mushtaq Shah, from their house.
The police kept Mushtaq in illegal custody for one week and tortured him. As a result, Mushtaq lost his mental balance and got one leg fractured.
Mushtaq was recovered from the illegal custody of the police by a court bailiff and the DPO was summoned for Tuesday’s proceedings.
After examining the relevant police record, the court ordered the registration of case against DSP Akhtar Pehalwan, Inspector Naseem Elahi and two head constables for keeping a man in illegal confinement and torturing him.
Mushtaq is a father of five.
POLL PLEAS: An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court issued notice to two returned candidates on petitions challenging their victory.
Azam Nazir Tarar has challenged the election of Wilayat Shah from PP-220 while the election of Akhtar Ali from NA-98 has been challenged by Muhammad Nawaz.
Both the petitioners alleged that the respondents did not fulfil the mandatory requirements under Article 62 and 63, and should be declared disqualified from being the member of legislature.
