Rs35m plan for UET Lahore approved

ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a scheme entitled “Computerisation and Networking Enhancement” at University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore at a cost of about Rs35 million.

The scheme was approved in a meeting of Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) of HEC held at its Campus, at Islamabad, which was presided over by Dr S.M. Hassan, Executive Director, HEC recently.

The main objective of the project is to provide an internal automation in the University and to develop infrastructure e- offices in the university that includes local & wide area networks (LAN/WAN).

These networkings would be used for inter-office communication by replacing physical file system to computer based file system. The scheme aims to provide the on-line services through Web, Portal for the university which will facilitate the scientists and technologists of the universities of Pakistan for conducting research through IT.

A complete website of the university will also be constructed which will contain commonly required information about the university and the list of books/serials and research publications. LAN/WAN implementation and customised database designing and implementation will lead to a significant improvement in the engineering sector.

TRAINING COURSE: Meanwhile the Higher Education Commission (HEC) is organizing a six-day in-service training course in the discipline of Statistics for university/degree college teachers of Punjab from February 3-8, 2003 at HEC Regional Centre, Lahore.

The course is being conducted in collaboration with Government College University, Lahore. The objective of the course is to acquaint the teachers of Statistics with the latest changes incorporated in the new syllabus of statistics revised by National Curriculum Revision Committee (NCRC) of HEC.

Some 30-35 teachers from the degree colleges of Punjab are expected to participate in this course. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khalid Pervaiz, Chairman, Department of Statistics, Government College University, Lahore will act as course co-ordinator for this training course. This curriculum based training course has been specially designed for in-service degree college/university teachers of Statistics.
