KARACHI, Feb 1: The chestnut horse Free Lancer presented owner Irfan Mehdi with a third win on the trot, picking up the spoils in the fourth race of the Winter Race Meeting held on Saturday.
Partnered once again by jockey Arshad, Free Lancer improving with every run, scorched the turf in a time of one minute 3 3/5 seconds going over five furlongs beating nearest rival Sher Zai by 10 1/2 lengths. Flying Bird was third and Sweet Grandy completed the frame.
It was indeed a day of disasters for the favourites as not less than five in programme of seven events bit the dust.
The first to perish was Sunday Silence, finishing a bad fourth behind Major Dandy, ridden by Naveed, Shehroz-e-Sehar and Royal Promise.
M.R. Hussain’s grey colt Mera Jugnoo with Sajjid Hussain in the saddle, created another upset in the second race collaring the favourite Rich Valiant a furlong from the winning post.
Black Magic partnered by riding boy Aamir Ali, kept up the tempo in the third, beating Clever Cat by 3/4 of a length, with the favourite Great Bakht managed to hold off Present Will for the third spot.
Royal Lancer ridden by S. Khan presented trainer Agha Karim with a good double in the next event. Earlier his Major Dandy won the opening race.
Deniro unlucky to finish second last week made amends and galloped to victory in the sixth race beating stable companion X’tasy by two and half lengths.
The thoroughbred bay horse Charkah Bareen this time ridden by Muzaffar Hussain, also made amends for last week’s failure to win, ending the pretensions of the raging favourite Fire Of Desire.
The next race meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 9.
