Zulfiqar claims first gold

LAHORE, Feb 1: Wapda’s Zulifqar Ali landed the first gold medal winning the 1000m Time Trial final, the only event held on first day of the 52nd National Cycling Championship which started at the National Velodrome on Saturday.

Zulifqar clocked one minute 14.52 seconds. Teammate Dilsher Ali, finished second in a time of one minute 15.88 seconds to earn the silver medal. Zafar Hussain and Noor Alam both from Railways earned the third and fourth positions.

Zulifqar and Dilsher also qualified for the 1000m sprint along with Zafar Hussain, Muhammad Asif (Railways), Nizakat Ali, Arif Inyat (Punjab), Amirullah and Abdul Ahad (Balochistan) after occupying the top two position in the heat. The semifinal and final of this event will be played on Monday.

Meanwhile, Army failed to take part in the championship.
