CHITRAL, Feb 1: The ‘swift centre’ of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) will start functioning in Chitral by the end of April to provide computerized identity cards to the people.

Nadra Assistant Director Shabbir Ahmad told Dawn the other day  that the applicants seeking identity cards would be assisted at the swift centre.

The applicants would be charged Rs60 only, while the computerized  national identity cards would be issued in one month, he said, adding that the cards would be delivered at the addresses of the applicants.

He said that during the last one-and-a-half year, 90,440 application forms had been processed by Nadra district office, out of which 75,987 cards were delivered by Nadra central office in Islamabad.

He said that 36 village representatives were working in Chitral.

Three points of Nadra had also been established at Mastuj, Booni and Garam Chashma, he added.

To a question he said that special efforts were being made to foil  the attempts by Afghan refugees to get NICs and the department had detected  many cases. Many persons involved in the practice were under prosecution, he said.
