LAHORE, Jan 31: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday condemned the violations of human rights in Kashmir and Muslims’ maltreatment at the hands of Indian forces.

The reign of terror in the held Kashmir will come to an end when Kashmiris win their right of self-determination, he said at a meeting with Azad Kashmir president Sardar Mohammad Anwar.

The chief minister termed Kashmir the core issue in Indo-Pak relations and called upon the world powers, media and human rights organizations to play an effective role for its resolution.

Earlier, Pakistan Army Engineer-in-Chief Lt-Gen Mohammad Zubair and Frontier Works Organization director-general Maj-Gen Shahid Niaz called on the chief minister to discuss development strategy for the province.

Meanwhile, talking to some MPAs who had called on him, Mr Pervaiz said mega development projects would be completed in the province through public-private partnerships.

The Lahore-Kasur Motorway project would soon be launched and the network of roads expanded in the province to improve communication links, he said.

The chief minister said economic progress was possible only in a politically stable environment. The present political system would help overcome unemployment and cause economic progress in the country, he claimed, adding that the present democratic system was established on strong footings and would make all legislators work for the betterment of the people rather than self-promotion.

The chief minister urged the MPAs to keep in touch with people in their constituencies and make all-out efforts for resolution of their problems. He also asked them to involve the people in development activities.

He also urged them to take interest in legislation and formulation of government policies.
