OMANTHAI (Sri Lanka), Jan 31: Lankan police on Friday seized 300 sets of army uniforms in a lorry suspected to belong to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
The truck was on way to Vanni from Vavuniya. The police confiscated the items and investigations are under way, sources said.
Sources in the LTTE claimed that the items were raincoats and not uniforms. However, the police said that the items could not be raincoats as the monsoon rains were over, and were expected again only in October.
Meanwhile, in eastern Batticaloa a battle of wits is taking place between the police and the pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam university students.
The entry point to the main eastern town of Batticaloa, which was inscribed with the LTTE emblem, has been removed by the police.
