HYDERABAD, Jan 30: The majority of members of the Hyderabad District Council, at a session held on Thursday, lashed out at interference of taluka councils in affairs of union councils.

They said union councils should not be neglected in distribution of funds, given by provincial and federal governments, and demanded funds should be directly transferred to union council accounts.

The members said it was earlier assured by the DCO and the district Nazim that union councils would directly submit their schemes to the district government to get the same approved.

But, they said, the EDO, works and services, had asked union council Nazims to submit their schemes of Rs3.5 million each to taluka councils.

The council witnessed a heated debate over the issue as Azizullah Memon tabled an out-of-turn resolution before the council, seeking submission of schemes directly to the district government.

He said union council Nazims should be allowed to carry out development works in their areas and reserved seats candidates should also be given share in funds.

Meeran Mohammad Shah said despite assurance by the DCO and the district Nazim, union council Nazims had not been informed about development works.

He told the convener, Nawab Rashid Ali Khan, that councillors had been completed neglected.

Mir Ghulamullah Talpur criticized Tando Mohammad Khan Taluka Nazim for not holding a meeting with union council Nazims.

Expressing his reservations over allocation of funds, Khalil Memon, a Nazim from Tando Mohammad Khan taluka, deplored no development work had been carried out in his union council.
