KARACHI, Jan 28: A meeting on law and order situation here on Tuesday reviewed the steps taken for elimination of “no-go areas” in Karachi, and the rehabilitation of the families who suffered displacement in these areas.
Presiding over a meeting, Sindh governor Dr Ishratul Ibad directed the officials to ensure implementation of the instructions of President Pervez Musharraf.
He said that rehabilitation of displaced families be completed as per laid down time-frame.
Dr Ishrat made it clear that the objective of all this effort was to get due rights to the families who were subjected to injustices, excesses and oppression.
He said no excesses be done to anyone while carrying out this task.
The concerned officials briefed the governor about the steps being taken and the pace of work for elimination of no-go areas and for rehabilitation of the affected families.
In the meeting, stress was laid on making the collection of hides of sacrificial animals as a source of earning sawab and also from avoiding any clash on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Governor Ishrat-ul-Ibad issued directives for an effective enforcement of anti-Bhatta Ordinance, control on incidents of car-lifting and snatching as well cases of dacoities and kidnappings in the interior of Sindh.
He asked the LEAs to take steps for attaining the confidence of the people.
The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, K.B. Rind, DG Rangers Maj-Gen Salahuddin Satti, home secretary Mohammed Aslam Sanjrani, IG Sindh Syed Kamal Shah, DCO Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, City Police Chief Asad Ashraf Malik, DIG Operations and other officials.
The governor also met the chief minister, Sardar Ali Mohammed Mahar, at the Chief Minister House.
On this occasion, views were exchanged for further improving the law and order situation, promoting economic activities besides undertaking projects for elimination of poverty and improvement of health, education and other basic necessities.
Implementation of the programme for elimination of urban-rural divide was also reviewed in the meeting.
The governor informed the chief minister about his meetings with various political leaders, representatives of industrial and business communities besides people representing various shades of opinion.
The chief minister apprised the governor about his visits to interior of Sindh and steps taken for stability and development of the province.
It was agreed in the meeting that joint efforts would be made for the welfare of common man and development of the province.
The governor said his meetings with various leaders and representatives of the people have been very successful and they all want to march forward towards a better future with unity and cohesion.—APP
