KARACHI, Jan 20: A young man was shot dead by unknown persons in Gulzar Hijri early Monday morning.

Police said Azam Khan, 35, a resident of Dera Ismail Khan, had come to Karachi a week ago to meet someone. On early Monday morning, some unknown persons pumped bullets in his body near Malick Agha Hotel on Superhighway and fled.

Police suspected personal enmity as the possible motive behind the killing.

ACCIDENTS: Three persons lost their lives in two road accidents on Monday.

Two persons, including a young girl, died and three others were injured when a minibus over-turned in Korangi on Monday.

Police said a minibus of route W-22 (JE-5059) over-turned near Darul Salam Society Korangi Crossing killing Najma, 6, and an unknown young man in his mid-20s.

Those who received injuries were identified as Fareeda mother of the young girl, Shamshad and Naveed.

The injured and the dead were taken to the JPMC.

A young man died in a road accident in Nazimabad late Sunday night.

Police said Dhani Bukhash, 40, was hit by a vehicle near Eidgah Maidan.

The victim was rushed to Abbasi hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

KILLED: A partially decomposed body of a young man was found in Korangi on Sunday night. Police said the body was recovered from Sector-33-C.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for postmortem where hospital sources said that the victim had been strangled.

Hospital sources said the body was at least four days old.

CARJACKINGS: Bandits took away 20 vehicles — eight cars and 11 motorcycles — in different parts of the city on Monday.

Five cars were taken away at gunpoint and four were stolen, while seven motorcycles were hijacked and four were taken away in different parts of the city on Monday.

A motorcycle (KCT-1202) belonging to Faisal Edhi was also snatched at gunpoint late Sunday night from Kharadar.

An Edhi centre spokesman said two armed men intercepted Faisal Edhi at gun-point near Kharadar Imambargah and snatched his motorcycle.

Police claimed recovery of six vehicles — one motorcycle and five cars — in different parts of the city.

Liquor seized: In one of the biggest seizures, foreign liquor worth Rs17.095 million was seized in a raid by the anti-smuggling squad of the collector of customs, sales tax and central excise, Quetta, at the custom house, Gaddani, on Monday, adds APP.

The customs staff seized 6,500 bottles of foreign liquor having a market value of about Rs17,095,800 after they intercepted two trucks (LS-5663 and JT-9059) near Hub.

The smugglers, sensing the danger opened fire at the raiding party, who returned the fire. However, taking cover of the firing and darkness, the drivers fled.

On checking, it was found that foreign brand Scotch whisky was concealed under the heap of bushes. The whisky was packed in original cartons as well as in loose form in poly propylene bags.

Initial information gathered showed that foreign liquor was dumped by the smugglers on the coast of Balochsitan, where it was brought through launches and was being transported to Karachi for consumption in the local market.
