NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Dec 6: A police constable was shot dead on Gachero link road late on Wednesday night.

Police said Nisar Ahmed Bughio and his son were going in a car to their native Phull Bhugio village. When they reached Gachero link road, near the Moro bypass, four gunmen tried to stop their car and opened fire on it.

On hearing the gunshot, constables Ghulam Mohammad Korie, resident of Moro, and Yaqeen Ali Mangenhar posted on the bypass rushed to the spot.

In the ensuing encounter, Ghulam Muhammad and Nisar Ahmed Bhugio were wounded.

They were taken to the Taluka Hospital Moro, where Mr Morie died within 15 minutes of his arrival.

Wounded Nisar Ahmed Bhugio was referred to the PMCH, Nawabshah.

The police and citizens in large number attended the funeral prayers at 4pm on Thursday.

Niaz Hussain, a police official, told Dawn that some persons had been arrested for their suspected involvement in the incident.

However, no FIR was registered as the family members of the constable were busy in funeral arrangements.

The deputy superintendent (headquarters) attended the funeral prayers, and told newsmen that Rs2 million and a job would be given to a legal heir of the dead.
