KARACHI, Jan 9: The National Logistic Cell (NLC) has extended its transportation operations beyond the national frontiers by providing haulage services to Iran, Turkey, Central Asian Republics and Afghanistan.
With a huge fleet of 1242 vehicles of latest version and technology the NLC has opened up a new avenue for facilitating country’s exports and imports through land route. The facility is being extended for both dry and liquid cargo services.
This was disclosed by Lt Col Mohammad Din AD (C&T) of NLC in a meeting on Thursday, with representatives of Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame).
Created out of necessity in 1978, NLC has completed 23 successful years of its life. After a successful operation by the NLC with a fleet of long trailers of latest technology many private transporters were compelled to follow in its foot steps.
The NLC operation also promoted the idea of dry ports all over the country and presently most of the exporters and importers prefer to engage its fleet in carrying bulk cargo such as wheat, cotton, cement, sugar, fertilizer, rice and plant and machinery form source to ports.
Lt Col Mohammad Din informed the Unisame team that NLC has saved millions of dollars due to improvement in port performance and has contributed to the economic growth of the country by speedy transportation of essential commodities.
He further said that it is playing significant role in the development of the country and stabilizing prices of goods and raw materials. Its impact has been felt in varied dimensions at national level, both in the private and public sectors.
The NLC institution has proven its role as a crisis management instrument of the government and presently the backbone of the national transport system, he added.
Over the years, the NLC has grown to be Asia’s largest heavy cargo carriers in the public sector and have well maintained its efficiency and prompt service record.
