RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said if re-elected the PML-N government would introduce a rapid transport system in Rawalpindi.

He was addressing a public gathering at Government Kohinoor Girls Degree College after inaugurating work on two projects —Pirwadhai flyover on Peshawar Road and widening of Peshawar Road from Chur Chowk to Chairing Cross.

Chief Minister Sharif said this traffic system has already been introduced in Lahore at a cost of Rs30 billion.

Urging the people to vote for the PML-N and Nawaz Sharif in the next elections, he said they would recover the looted public money from the rulers.

Malik Abrar, MNA, requested the chief minister to establish a hospital in the cantonment area of Rawalpindi. However, the chief minister said: “Only four months are left for the next general elections and there is shortage of funds. Your demand will beaccommodated in the PML-N’s next tenure if people give us vote,” he said.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, a local Jamaat-i-Islami leader and former vice-president of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, on the occasion announced his decision to join the PML-N.

Due to the public meeting of the chief minister, the City District Government Rawalpindi had repaired boundary walls and painted the gates and building of the college.

Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif laid the foundation of Pirwadhai flyover on Peshawar Road. The Rs1.4 billion project will be completed by March 15.

The chief minister also inaugurated work on the widening of Peshawar Road from Chur Chowk to Chairing Cross at a cost of Rs500 million.

The Pirwadhai flyover will be the third to be constructed in Rawalpindi within one year.

The two others are Chandni Chowk and Sixth Road flyovers. — A Reporter
