LAHORE, Jan 8: Family members of Khwajas met them at the Chuhng Investigation Centre on Wednesday.
Complaining that the jail authorities caused an undue delay in the meeting, counsel of the accused Pervaiz Inayat Malik said the meeting was arranged under directions from the Lahore High Court.
Dr Ahmad Javed Khwaja, his sons Dr Omar Karar Khwaja and Dr Khizar Ali Khwaja, his brother Ahmad Naveed Khwaja and his nephew Muhammad Usman Khwaja had been detained by the government initially for three months on charges of their alleged involvement in anti-state activities on behalf of a foreign country.
Mr Malik said he was also due to meet the accused to discuss some legal aspects of the case but he could not do so because the authorities disturbed his schedule.
He said the authorities had informed the court during the hearing of the case on Dec 31 that the meeting would be arranged at 11am. But, he added, when he and family members of Khwajas contacted the authorities, they asked them them to show up at 1pm.
“They kept us waiting for two hours when we went there and the meeting started at 3:30pm which lasted for an hour.”
The counsel said he could not get details of the meeting except for that all accused were detained separately.
“I will get more details later on,” he added.
