KOHAT, Jan 7: Syed Iftikhar Hussain Gilani, a senior PML-Q leader and former federal minister, has said that the parliamentarians have realised that if they want to see democratic process moving in the country they will have to support and strengthen the Jamali government at all costs.

Mr Gilani, who is also the chief election commissioner for the forthcoming PML-Q elections scheduled for Jan 11, told this correspondent on Tuesday that Mian Mohammad Azhar in the best interest of the country and for party unity had resigned from the party presidentship and promised not to form another group within it.

“The PML-Q has come into power at a very difficult moment and has to play a key role in promoting a true political culture besides facing the international challenges and threats therefore it is necessary to keep the system stable and intact”, he observed.

He informed that Tuesday was the last date for submission of nomination papers which would be scrutinized and finalized on Jan 9 and 10 for which all issues had been amicably settled.

He said that in the case of appointment of Sindh governor the agencies had cleared Ishrat ul Ibad of all criminal charges which proved to be mere allegations whereas the government had concrete evidence against Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto in their involvement in corruption and treason cases which being a very serious crimes could not be ignored.

“They must return to the country and face the court to clear themselves and again take part in the main stream politics”, Mr Gilani remarked and appreciated the acumen of the MMA leadership.
