KARACHI, Nov 23: Bandits, reportedly, looted Rs two million from the General Post Office in Saddar at gunpoint.

The police confirmed the robbery but declined to give details saying that FIR had not been lodged yet by the officials concerned of the post office. The police also drew a blank about the figure.

When the Sindh Post Master-General, Qamar Jamil, was contacted, his family members said that he had gone to sleep a short while ago.

Four more robberies were committed in the city on Friday, the police said.

Bandits barged into the house of Mushtaq in Gulbahar, held the family as hostage at gunpoint, collected household goods and got away with the loot.

Dacoits raided a shop in Baldia and robbed the shopkeeper, Rahmat, of cash.

Bandits intercepted Anwar in Saeedabad and robbed him of cash and wristwatch.

Bandits robbed five men of cash and valuables in Clifton. Three of them were Rahim, Sabir, and Nisar. The robbery took pace when the victims were on their way to the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ghazi.

CARJACKING: Nine vehicles — four cars and five motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Friday, the police said.

The cars were hijacked in Defence, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Shamim Shaheed, and Malir City.

The motorcycle were stolen in Aram Bagh (two), Baghdadi, Garden, and Shamim Shaheed.

SUICIDES: A man and a woman committed suicide in the city on Friday.

A man committed suicide in Gizri in the night.

The police said that Haroon Siddiqui, aged 55, shot himself in the chest in his house in Defence Phase-1V.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.

The police said that Haroon Siddiqui was a government official. The motive for the suicide had not been ascertained till our going to the press.

Dilawar Bibi, 40, committed suicide in Surjani Town after hanging herself in her house at the Afghan Camp in Surjani.
