HYDERABAD, Jan 6: The All Pakistan Trade Unions Organization (APTUO) has decided to disassociate itself from the Pakistan Workers Confederation (PWC) on the ground that it has done nothing for the cause of workers.
According to a press release issued here on Sunday, this decision was taken at a meeting of the governing body of the organization, held in Karachi.
Speaking at the meeting, the secretary general of the organization, S. P. Lodhi, said the new labour policy and the Industrial Relations Ordinance 2002, was anti-workers and added it had deprived workers of their inherent right to form trade unions.
He said under the new law, the punishment to industrialists for breaking the law had been abolished and a new clause had been added under which office-bearers of trade unions could penalized.
The meeting demanded the ordinance should be revoked.
