KARACHI, Jan 6: Sindh Minister for Labour, Industries, Transport and Commerce Mohammad Adil Siddiqui, while presiding over an introductory meeting of officials at the Social Security head office on Monday, asked them to serve the poor and to devise short-term development projects to give maximum benefits to the masses.

The minister said that all departments should work with specific task of serving the masses and get the public rid of their grievances without discrimination. Delay and slackness would not be tolerated and all instructions should be complied with on time, he added.

He ordered the officials not to accept any influence except merit and added that he would visit offices to inspect their performance.

He instructed them to write their daily diary and maintain punctuality.

He asked for establishment of industries in the province, especially in Thar, to provide the people with employment opportunities. He stressed development of all the seven industrial estates, including Nooriabad.

Mr Siddiqui also asked the officials to increase the number of schools under the workers’ welfare board and expressed concern over the increasing number of traffic accidents in Karachi and added that rules be formulated to eliminate transport mafia.

The minister praised the performance of Sessi officials and announced a honorarium of Rs1,000 for each employee.

Earlier, secretary Raja Mohammad Abbas gave a briefing and introduced officials of various departments to the minister.—PPI
