PESHAWAR, Jan 2: The NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has stressed the need for unity to foster development in the province.

Talking to a 14-member delegation of JUI-S, NWFP, which called on him under the leadership of deputy speaker NWFP assembly, Ikramullah Shahid, at the Governor’s House here on Thursday, the governor said that promotion of education was essential to create an awareness among the people in this respect.

The delegation comprised MPA Muhammad Ayaz Khan and JUI-S leaders including Maulana Syed Muhammad Yousaf Shah, Maulana Hussain Ahmed and Maulana Moin-ud-Din.

Responding to a point raised by a member of the delegation from Mardan, the governor said that education had always been his top priority and he had taken solid initiatives in this connection.

In Mardan too, he added, besides establishing the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology campus as well as board of intermediate and secondary education, two new degree colleges, one each for boys and girls, were also approved.

He, however, assured the delegation that he would contact the concerned officials to get more information from them on the matter. He promised to visit Mardan soon. He conceded that a lot was needed to be done for the uplift of Frontier Regions (FRs) adjacent to settled as well as tribal areas.
