KARACHI, Jan 2: Reckless driving claimed four lives in the city on Thursday.

A young lady doctor died and her husband was injured in a road accident in North Nazimabad in the morning.

Police said that Dr Sarwat Sarfaraz, aged 28, and her husband, Dr Ali Sarfaraz, aged 35, riding a motorcycle, were on their way to work at Civil Hospital from their residence in Buffer Zone.

When they reached near the terminus of route 2-K buses in Block N of North Nazimabad, a speeding trailer (LS-3046) knocked them down. Dr Ali Sarfaraz, with the motorcycle, was thrown a few yards away, but his wife came under the wheels of the long vehicle. She died on the spot.

After the accident a crowd gathered at the spot and they set the trailer on fire. The trailer was partially damaged as the fire brigade put out the fire.

Police said that the trailer driver, identified as Mumtaz, had been arrested.

The lady doctor left behind her husband and two children besides other family members, family sources said.

People present at the spot said that long vehicles were to run on the roads in the city late at night.

A six-year-old boy, Khalid Javed, was run over by a speeding minibus of route D-1 in Orangi Town in the police limits of Mominabad. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police claimed to have arrested the bus driver and impounded the vehicle.

A young motorcyclist fell victim to reckless driving in Gadap.

Police said Abdul Waheed, aged 26, was riding his motorcycle when an unknown vehicle knocked him down in Gadap late Wednesday night. He was on his way from Memon goth.

A young man who was injured in a road accident earlier died in a hospital on Thursday.

Police said that Faisal, aged 25, and Imran, aged 20, were riding a motorcycle (KCH-3506) when a speeding water tanker (JT-8128) knocked them down late Tuesday night in Soldier Bazaar.
