HYDERABAD, Jan 1: The local zone of the Income Tax Department has identified 23,000 new taxpayers during the first half of the current financial year.

This was stated by a source in the Income Tax Department here on Wednesday.

The Hyderabad zone of the IT department comprises seven districts of the defunct Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions and the Nawabshah district.

He said that these taxpayers had been identified under the directives of the member (district taxes), Central Board of Revenue (CBR), Vakeel Ahmed Khan, through information gathered under a survey conducted by the army as well as utilizing sources of the IT department.

New taxpayers, he said, would broaden the base of taxation as the government did not want to overburden old tax-payers. He said that this was a record all over Pakistan.

He said that the assessment of 8,800 new taxpayers had already been completed, adding that the Hyderabad zone expected to discover at least 20,000 more taxpayers by the end of the current fiscal year.

SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission, Hyderabad, has informed that the written test for the post of assistant sub- inspectors of police will be held on Jan 11 at 2pm.

The admission letters have been dispatched to all of the eligible candidates on their respective addresses.

The candidates have been advised to contact the regional office of SPSC Karachi if they did not receive admit letters by Jan 6.

POLICE: The regional police officer has informed that the police have arrested 26 absconders and three criminals besides recovering three pistols and 11 bullets from their possession in various districts of the Hyderabad region during the past 24 hours.

According to the break-up, Hyderabad district police arrested two criminals and recovered two pistols along with eight bullets, Dadu district police arrested two absconders, Thatta district police arrested 10 absconders, Badin police arrested four absconders and one criminal.
