KARACHI, Jan 1: Two men fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Wednesday.

A young man died in a road accident on Hub River Road.

Police said that Syed Ashraf Ali, aged 35, was riding a motorcycle on Hub River Road when a speeding passenger coach (JE-6597) knocked him down. As a result, he was seriously injured.

He was rushed to a private hospital. Later, he was referred to Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The coach driver escaped. Police claimed to have impounded the vehicle.

An elderly man died while getting down from a bus at a bus stop in New Town.

Police said that Imtiaz Ahmed, aged 70, was getting down from a bus of route 11-C when he lost his balance and fell to the road.

He was rushed to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

DIES OF BURNS: A young housewife died after her inlaws allegedly set her on fire at their house in Model Colony on Wednesday morning.

Police said that 20-year-old Ramin was married to Adnan Hameed four months back. Soon after the marriage, differences developed between Ramin and her mother-in-law, Rifat, who used to taunt her over dowry.

On Wednesday morning, when Adnan and other male members of the family left for work, her mother-in-law called her in the kitchen and allegedly set her on fire. She ran into a bathroom, poured water on her body and locked herself inside.

When neighbours heard Ramin’s cries, they came to the house, broke open the door of the bathroom and rushed the injured woman to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), from where she was referred to Civil Hospital. She died on the way to Civil Hospital.

Police are investigating the case. No arrest had been made till our going to press.

KILLED: The body of a young man was recovered from a stormwater drain in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Wednesday morning.

Police said that the body of the unidentified young man was recovered from a stormwater drain in Block 7 near Decent Apartments. He was wearing shorts and a T-shirt.

The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem, from where it was sent to Civil Hospital.

His autopsy report has been reserved.

Police suspected that the young man was poisoned.

DIES: A young man died in mysterious circumstances in Clifton late Tuesday night.

Police said that Khursheed Ahmed, aged 23, working at a camp of the Survey of Pakistan, situated near Dr Ziauddin Hospital University, was found dead in a bathroom.

His family was informed of his death. They, however, informed police late on Tuesday night.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem. The autopsy report has been reserved.

Police were of the view that the man died a natural death.
