HYDERABAD, Dec 30: The transporters have warned to launch a protest movement if the order asking owners to deposit the vehicle tax separately at the district level is not withdrawn.
The order was issued by the Sindh excise and taxation secretary.
In a joint communication addressed to the secretary, excise and taxation, the transporters, belonging to various organizations, said under the free policy, which had been in vogue since 1959, the vehicle owners had been allowed to deposit the tax according to their own convenience.
They pointed out that a vehicle owner deposited a tax of Rs200 in Hyderabad but now he would have to spend an additional amount of at least Rs300 to go to Karachi to deposit the tax.
They said it made no difference whether the tax was deposited in Hyderabad or in Sukkur as it went to the Sindh government kitty.
They demanded the owners should be allowed to deposit the tax at a place convenient for them.
