MULTAN, Dec 21: The four-day golden Jubilee celebrations of the Nishtar Medical College ended here on Saturday.
A scientific symposium, musical nights and nostalgic meetings of the old Nishtarians were the main features of the celebrations. Some 18 lectures were delivered on the third and last session of the scientific symposium.
At the NMC auditorium, Sultan Farooque read his paper on ‘quality assurance in examinations’, Tariq Sohail on ‘new insight in the management of osteoporosis’ Shahid M Ahsan on ‘obstructive sleep apnea: a common disorder uncommonly diagnosed’, Muhammad Aslam on ‘man, mountain and medical scenario’, Umer Ali Khan ‘sleep habits and their consequences’ and S Shaoib on ‘health and social development: can we meet the challenges’.
At the assembly hall of the college, Syed Zafar Haider threw light on ‘contribution of Nishtar in the advancement of surgery’ while Zafar Khan read paper on ‘current status of management of stone disease’, Gulzar Ahmed Khan on ‘radiotherapy in prostate cancer’, Saeed Ashraf Cheema on ‘modified Duhamel’s procedure with staplers for Hirschprung’s disease’, Iftikhar Hussain Khan on ‘twentyfour months experience of thoracic surgery at Nishtar Hospital, and Muhammad Amjad Amin on ‘mini cholecystectomy at the Nishtar Hospital’.
At the crush hall, Sarwar J Zubairi read his paper on ‘liver disease due to hepatitis’, Arif Muslim on ‘gastro esophageal reflux disease’, Abdul Haleem on ‘juvenile hyaline fibrematosis LM, immunohistochemistry and EM study of 3 siblings’, Durre Sabih on ‘image perception: can we believe our eyes?’, and Mansoor Ali Khan on ‘ultrasonographic anthropometric analysis of anterior abdominal wall subcutaneous fat in 260 healthy men, 24-50 years of age: influence of age and obesity’.
