NEW DELHI, Dec 20: Leading human rights group Amnesty International has condemned the death sentences given to three Muslim Kashmiri men for their role in a deadly attack on the Indian parliament last year.
“The death penalty is a violation of the right to life and the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment,” Amnesty said in a statement received here on Friday.
The London-based rights group criticized POTA, saying it falls considerably short of international fair trial standards.
It also criticized media coverage of the trial, deeming it “extremely prejudicial”. —AFP
