LAHORE, Dec 20: Former Pakistan soccer coach, Jozef Herel, said Friday Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) should be run by professionals and in a systematic manner.

Herel, before leaving for his home country Slovakia today, said Pakistan had around 1000 clubs, but ironically attention was not being paid to explore the talent from the clubs.

He reiterated PFF must start national league as, he said, it was only way the players would be able to play some 40 to 50 matches in a year.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only Asian countries where the league was not being organized, he said. Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had given PFF final warning to initiate the league in the 2003 or face severe action.

Herel said PFF did not offer him to continue even he was ready to stay on less amount. Herel was getting $3,000 per month from the AFC before he was released by the PFF following suspension of the AFC development programme.

However, Herel felt he was getting less salary during his tenure as compared to the some coaches who were receiving $5,000 from the AFC, while the national federations where the AFC coaches were deputed were also paying additional amount from their own resources.

During one year stay in Pakistan, the team had two went twice abroad to play under Herel. Pakistan went to Sri Lanka to play four friendly games, of which they lost two, while two ended in a draw.

The team also lost all the matches at Busan Asian Games as Kuwait beat them 6-0, North Korea 5-0, and Hing Kong 3-0.

Herel said he had asked AFC about his remaining two years contract as he was released by the PFF even little before a year. He was sent to Pakistan for three years.

Herel said he had six-year contract with AFC. The coach had been sent on three-year assignment to Malaysia and two years in Maldives before coming to Pakistan.
