Narrow defeat for Sindh Horse

LAHORE,  Dec 17: A three goal rally led by  top-scorer  Saqib Khan Khakwani and Usman Hai helped Medowlea win by a narrow margin when they defeated Sindh Horse 7 1/2-7  by virtue of half a goal on handicap on the opening day of the Eight Goal  polo tournament Tuesday.

Medowlea were trailing 7-4 1/2 in the beginning of the third chukker. Medowlea started its recovery when Usman Hai who scored three goals banged home a a field goal after a long chase, followed by back to back goals by Saqib in the fourth chukker to win the thrilling tie. Saqib scored four goals.

For Sindh Horse, Hamid Ali also struck four goals while Hussain Iftikhar (2) and Jamal Iftikhar (1) were the other scorers.

In another match, four goals by Shah Qublai Alam and two by his brother Shamyl, enabled Globle Telecom to beat Black Berets 7-5. Faaiz Rahim Khan chipped in with a goal.

Berets had two goals on handicap and scored three goals in the match, two by Taimur Malik and a goal from Asif Zahoor.

Sufi Aamir also scored four goals to steer Thuraya to victory over Sherwood 9-5. Arslan Najeeb added three goals while Atif Yar Tiwana and Sufi Muhammad Haris a goal apiece.

Sherwood with two goals on handicap scored three goals, one each by Nasir Ahmd Khan, Amanat and Shehzad Aziz.
