LAKKI MARWAT, July 5: The health department with the help of WHO arranged a workshop for the chairmen and secretaries of the union council polio eradication committees on Thursday.

Health experts imparted training to the participants on role of union council level committees in polio eradication and to check the work of polio teams. They also highlighted the role of chairmen and secretaries of such committees in monitoring the performance of area in-charge.

They also delivered lectures on the updates of polio disease in the country especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, selection of polio teams and supervision of indicators.

EDO health Dr Abdul Ghaffar said these committees had a vital role to play in eradicating polio. He called upon the members of the committees to assist polio teams and ensure coverage of targeted population in the upcoming anti-polio drive.

CAR SNATCHER ARRESTED: Police arrested a man believed to have links with inter-provincial car-lifters gang and recovered from him a snatched car late on Wednesday night.

An official said two persons posing themselves army personnel booked a car from Kohat for Lakki Marwat. “They snatched the car from driver Khalilur Rehman near Manjiwala chowk and sped it away,” he maintained.

He said after being informed about the car snatching incident DPO Umar Riaz put the police on alert with instructions to erect nakabandi on all exist points. In the meanwhile, he said a police party confronted the car lifters near Paharkhel Thall and arrested one of them identified as Sanab Gul.

“Police also took the snatched car into custody and started combing the area in search of the fleeing culprit,” he added.
