LAHORE, June 26: More than 18 tons of narcotics were burnt and 5,000 bottles of Indian liquor were destroyed at Wagah Border in connection with the International Anti-Drug Day on Tuesday.
According to a press release, officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force, Rangers (Punjab), Customs, Punjab police and Railways police witnessed the burning ceremony at Wagah Border.
The narcotics which burnt included 137kg heroin, 2,074kg hashish, 15,951kg opium and 84kg multiple injections and chemicals.
Rangers Director General Maj-Gen Mian Muhammad Hilal Husain, during his address, said the Rangers had set up check posts along 1,400km border with India to check smuggling of contrabands.
