HYDERABAD, Oct 9: Two bus loads of students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, belonging to the Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF), held a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Tuesday.

They were protesting against the “anti-education policies” of the vice chancellor, cancellation of the admission of JSSF leaders Khalid Mirani and Khehar Ansari, inordinate increase in fees, term-back policy and 75 per cent attendance rule.

Talking to newsmen, JSSF leaders — Khalid Mirani, Asif Magsi, and Ameer Bux Burdi — said that the vice chancellor was “playing with the future” of 5,000 students and had cancelled the admissions of Khalid Mirani and Khehar Ansari, who, had raised their voice against the “unrealistic policies” of the vice chancellor.

They demanded that the term-back policy should be abolished and the admissions of the JSSF leaders should be restored.

In their opinion, the rule of 75 per cent attendance was “unrealistic” and, therefore, the percentage of attendance should be reduced.

They further demanded that the students should be allowed to appear in the special supplementary examination, increase in fees should be withdrawn, and the problem of transport should be resolved.

SSGC: The convener, Sui Southern Gas Company Officers Association, Sindh and Balochistan, Rashid Baloch, alongwith other office bearers of the association met Dr. Qadir Magsi, the provincial president of the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (PONAM) on Tuesday.

The delegation complained to Mr Magsi that even after the decision of the Supreme Court, 300 employees of Sindh and Balochistan were not being issued posting orders and they were also being denied medical facilities.

They said that an advertisement had also appeared in the newspapers about new appointments which had created unrest among the reinstated employees.

Dr. Magsi is reported to have assured full support to the Sui Gas employees.

He said that the rulers themselves were sitting in the corridors of power because of the decision of the Supreme Court, and, therefore, they should implement the decision of the apex court.

He also appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo moto action in the matter and take legal action against the managing director and the general manager of the Southern Sui Gas Company.

He appealed to President Gen Musharraf to direct the authorities to issue posting orders of the reinstated employees.
