Turkish help sought in KESC sell-off

ISLAMABAD Dec 13: Pakistan has sought to share Turkish expertise and cooperation in the process of privatization of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

The offer was made by Water and Power Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao in a meeting with Turkish Ambassador in Islamabad, Kemal GUR, who called on the minister at his office on Friday.

Mr Sherpao apprised the ambassador of power projects and their role in the uplift of the country. He desired that Turkish government may advise the government of Pakistan on privatization of KESC. He said since Turkey had well established system of dams, Pakistan would like to benefit from this experience.

He said that inclusion of Turkey in European Union would open up greater trade avenues for Pakistan and provide close linkages between the two continents.

Earlier, Mr Kemal said his countries was in process of signing a trade route agreement with Iraq, which would open up land routes to Iran, Pakistan and Central Asia. This land communication, he said, would greatly contribute in improving bilateral trade between Pakistan and Turkey.
