KARACHI, Nov 20: A division bench of the Sindh High Court adjourned on Tuesday the hearing of the bail application of an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Ajmal Pahari, implicated in a 1998 bomb blast case.

The bench consisted of Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro and Justice Ataur Rahman.

The counsel for Ajmal Pahari, Khwaja Naveed Ahmed, submitted that his client was not involved in this crime and police had implicated him wrongly due to his political affiliation.

He also submitted that the trial court granted bail to two other accused allegedly involved in this case, but rejected the applicant’s bail plea. The court fixed Nov 28 the next date of hearing.

The applicant had moved the High Court as on Aug 25 an additional district and sessions judge Karachi South rejected his bail application.

BENAZIR: Another division bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice S. Ali Aslam Jaffery, put off the hearing of an application of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto praying to quash the proceeding of an accountability reference, pending trial in the accountability court-IV Karachi. It pertained to appointments in the Pakistan International Airlines Corporation.

Abdul Hafeez Lakho filed a criminal revision application with the SHC challenging the impugned order of the AC-IV Karachi dated Sept 11 and prayed the court to set it aside. The trial court on Sept 11 dismissed an application for acquittal under section 265-K of CrPC filed by the former prime minister.
