KARACHI, Dec 12: The city government has scheduled meetings with the union councils’ Nazims and councillors of towns on daily basis from Dec 16 to 21 in connection with the development projects, involving Rs140 million, as proposed by the councillors elected on reserved seats.
The series of meetings is aimed at giving final approval, jointly by the development committee and the Nazims, to the projects after a review.
The meetings will be held at the conference room of the city government.
The Nazim of Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, had earlier written to the UC Nazims and the councillors elected on the reserved seats that they would be provided assistance in the implementation of schemes costing up to Rs3.5 million and Rs0.5 million respectively. They were advised to submit their proposals latest by Dec 15 with the Works and Services Department so as to ensure timely implementation of the projects.
A city government spokesman said on Thursday that the committee, set up by the city Nazim for the purpose, had already started its work whereas a separate section was being created in the Works and Services Department to take appropriate action in connection with the implementation of the schemes.
During the week-long series of meetings, the schemes would be scrutinized and tenders would be issued by Jan 15.
Tower renovated: Renovation, cleaning and beautification work at the historic Merewether Tower has been completed with its interior having been given a new look. Flower plants and lush green grass have been grown all around the tower while a virtual boundary of trees has been erected.
The Nazim of Karachi, Naimatullah Khan, visited the site on Thursday and directed the concerned officials to ensure protection of the monument which is the cultural heritage of the country and a historic symbol of the city.
He also directed them to plant palm trees also around the tower and along both the sides of I. I. Chundrigar Road from Tower to Shaheen Complex. He suggested that private sector’s cooperation in this regard could be sought.
advertizing: The city district government on Thursday notified for the information of all concerned, particularly the companies associated with advertising business, that the city government had been authorized to issue licence and receive fee for the external mode of advertizing, such as signboards of all kinds, effective July 1, 2002.
It reminded that no licence or challans had been issued for the installation of signboards after June 30, 2002 and as such those installed after the date were illegal.
The city government has given seven days, from the date of the publication of this notification, to the advertizers to remove all such illegal signboards, pole tri-visions/panatex, v-direction boards, etc. or face legal action and confiscation of such material.—APP/PPI
