Eminent stage, television and film artiste Ibrahim Nafees died on May 21 in Karachi at the age of 75. He had not been feeling well for the last few months and was admitted in a local hospital. On May 21 (Sunday) he breathed his last.

Irbahim Nafees was one of the most revered character actors that Pakistan’s film industry has ever produced. Born in Agra, India, he acquired his early education from another city, Jonpur. After Partition, his family migrated to Pakistan and he joined Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad, at an early age and worked there as an actor. Soon he was offered a role in a film which he accepted. The rest, as they say, is history.

Ibrahim Nafees worked in numerous films, a big number of which had Waheed Murad as a hero. He used to do villainous roles and was a master at it. He also played quite a few other characters. Some of his most successful films are Ahsaan, Andleeb, Heera aur Patthar and Jab Jab Phool Khilay.

Ibrahim Nafees left the film industry in the late ’80s and joined Karachi’s TV and theatre scene. Here, too, he made his mark. Umar Sharif’s famous stage production Bakra Qistoon Per is one example of it.

He is survived by a wife, two sons and a daughter.— PYT
