SIALKOT, Dec 11: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has rejected the proposal of reverting to Friday as weekly holiday.
According to a press release, SCCI senior president Mohammad Sadiq Goraya and vice president Mohammad Ashraf Malik said the concept of weekly holiday of Friday had already ended globally. So it should never be restored.
The exporters would be unable to march with the international trade and export markets if Friday was restored as weekly holiday, they added.
The press release stated that Sialkot’s exporters are directly or indirectly linked with the European trade markets where two official weekly holidays — Saturday and Sunday — are already in vogue, and if Friday’s holiday was restored, the business community will be cut off for three consecutive days — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — from world and European trade markets.
