KARACHI, Dec 9: Various labour organizations have criticized the government for its indifference to apprehending the killers of labour leader Pasha Ahmed Gul, and warned the authorities that if the culprits were not arrested by Dec 16, they would launch a protest movement from Dec 17.

At a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday, the labour leaders said on Dec 17 workers would take out a protest march from Karachi Press Club that would conclude at the Governor’s House.

They said even then if the killer/killers were not arrested, in the second phase of the protest movement workers would stage a sit-in at the Sindh Assembly and then at the National Assembly.

They demanded of the government to take notice of the lethargy on the part of police in this connection and inform the people of the real motives of the killers.

They were of the view that the killing was neither politically inspired nor was it an act of terrorism, but it was target killing. They said the late leader was fighting a battle against corrupt elements, and claimed that these elements had him eliminated.

“Police have arrested the hired assassin who revealed to the investigators the real forces behind the killing,” they claimed.

Besides others, S. P. Lodhi of the Trade Union Action Committee and the Pakistan Trade Unions Organization, Mohammed Islam of the National Labour Federation, Salim Raza of the National Trade Union Federation, Khalilur Rahman of the All Pakistan Federation of Labour and Qamarul Hasan of the Muttahida Labour Federation spoke at the press conference.
