RAWALPINDI, Dec 8: Eight persons, including a woman, were killed in the twin cities while five robbery incidents were reported in Rawalpindi during the Eid holidays.

According to the police, a woman, Sukhan Bibi, who was in her 40s, was strangled by her husband over a domestic dispute in G-9/2.

The alleged murderer, Zulfiqar Ahmed, a dry-fruit vendor, surrendered to the police after killing his wife Sukhan Bibi. The murder came to light when the woman’s brother visited her house on Friday.

The police said Zulfiqar Ahmed confessed to the crime. He told the police that he had also planned to kill his daughter.

Manzoor Ahmed, the brother of the deceased woman, lodged an FIR with the Margalla police, saying that he found the door of his sister’s house locked when he went to visit her on Friday. Despite repeated knocks, there was no reply. He said when the police broke open the door, he found his sister’s body.

Quoting the owner of the house, the police said the couple had a brawl on Chand Raat over the purchase of clothes, but the issue had been settled by them.

The deceased woman was the third wife of Zulfiqar while he was her second husband.

In another incident, a man was stabbed to death by his friend in Dhoke Ilahi Buksh.

Mohammad Ayub and Abbas, both friends, had a monetary dispute. Mohammad Abbas called Ayub to Dhoke Ilahi Buksh on Saturday night and stabbed him to death, the police said.

Similarly, Malik Imran was shot dead by some unidentified persons in Westridge.

Mohammad Azam, the brother of Imran, lodged an FIR with the police saying his brother left the house on Chand Raat, saying that he was going to a barber’s shop, but he did not return. He said on Friday, he was informed that Imran’s body was lying in the fields in Ilyas Colony.

The complainant told the police that his brother had no enmity with anyone. The body was handed over to the family after postmortem, the police said.

Meanwhile, two persons, including a son of an army officer, were killed and six children injured when a gas cylinder exploded at an Eid Mela held at the AMC Mess on Saturday.

The dead were Mohammad Tayyab, a balloon-seller, and the son of Maj Saeed Qasir, a doctor at AMC.

Maj Saeed Qasir, the father of the deceased child, said he and his family had gone to the Army Medical Corps (AMC) Mess situated on Adamjee Road on the second day of Eid.

Suddenly, a gas cylinder exploded as a result of which Mohammad Tayyab and Maj Saeed Qasir’s son were killed. Six children, including a daughter and another son of Mr Qasir, were injured.

The injured were shifted to Military Hospital where they are said to be in stable condition.

Police investigations concluded that the cylinder explosion was “accidental”.

In another incident, Sajawal Khan, 12, was run over by a speeding vehicle on Murree Road on Eid day.

Sajawal, a 7th class student, was walking on the road along with his father when a Suzuki car, coming from Satellite Town, hit the boy, killing him on the spot. The car driver was arrested by Waris Khan police.

KILLED IN ACCIDENT: Two youths were killed after their motorcycle crashed into a pole in a motorbike race near Khanna bridge on Saturday.

The police said Wasim Butt and his cousin Mohammad Azim Butt were riding on a motorbike (RIF-2238) when it crashed into a roadside pole killing them on the spot.

The bodies were handed over to the parents by the police. Both the accident victims were college students and residents of Waris Khan area.

ROBBERIES: Robbers and burglars struck at five different places in Rawalpindi during Eid holidays and deprived the people of cash, gold jewellery and other goods, police said.

In the first incident, four robbers looted a filling station near Pirwadhai after overpowering the security guards. They escaped with Rs59,500.

The police registered a robbery case on the complaint of Abdul Raheem.

In another incident, four robbers entered a house at Sir Syed Chowk and decamped with cash, gold ornaments, wrist watches and mobile sets.

Majid Ismail, the robbery victim, lodged an FIR with the Airport police saying that four robbers entered his house and held his family at gunpoint. They snatched Rs6,000 in cash, gold ornaments, five mobile sets and wrist watches before escaping.

Similarly, burglars broke into the house of a retired wing commander in Askari-V, and made off with gold ornaments, Rs275,000, $3,000 and travellers’ cheques.

Abdul Waheed lodged an FIR with the Airport police saying that he along with his family had gone to visit his relatives. When he returned he found the locks of his house broken and households scattered in the rooms.

Upon listing the goods, he found gold ornaments, valued at Rs0.5 million, cash, foreign currency and travellers cheques missing.

Likewise, burglars broke into the house of Dr Masoodul Hassan in Civil Lines and escaped with electronic goods and other valuables.

Similarly, Dr Afzal Ahmed Malik lodged a report with the Saddar Bairuni police, in which he stated that burglars broke into his house and looted gold jewellery and other goods valued at Rs250,000.
