ISLAMABAD, Dec 5: A four-member Pakistan golf team is set to leave for Manila Saturday to compete in the Asia-Pacific Juniors Masters Golf Championship which opens on Dec 10.
Pakistan have named Danial Aziz, Hamza Amin, Mustafa Rafi Khan and Omair Javed for the tournament which is open to junior amateur golfers having a handicap of 9.4 and below.
In this 72-holes strokeplay competition, the player returning the lowest score will be declared the Asia Pacific Junior champion.
The tournament, to be held at the Westwoods Golf Course, has attracted golfers from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Philippines.
The Pakistan team comprises talented boys with Danial topping the list having impressed in recent tournaments with his excellent style of play. He represented the country in the 23rd Junior Championship in Malaysia last year and the Singapore Junior Masters this year. An O Level student, the golf managers are pinning high hopes on him.
Hamza, the other member of the team is the son of seasoned golfer Taimur Hasan. He recently won the Chief of the Army Staff Golf Championship trophy on net in the amateurs category and is also the current net under-15 champion.
Mustafa brings along with him plenty of natural skill. He finished on top in the net category of the National Amateur Championship and the Lahore Gymkhana Under-18 Club tournament. The Manila event provides him a good opportunity for the big break.
A student of Matric, Omair, the fourth member of the party is the reigning junior champion.
