KARACHI: College principal shot dead

KARACHI, Oct 9: Unidentified people shot dead the principal of a technical college in Orangi Town on Tuesday.

Police said as Syed Gul Imam Shah, aged 50, the Principal of Government Monotechnical College, Orangi Town, was about leave the college on his motorcycle, unidentified men, riding on a motorcycle, opened fired on him at the college gate. He died on the spot. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. The hospital sources said Mr Shah had received four bullets in his arms and his chest.

Police said the victim hailed from Attock area, and here he had been living in Ancholi Society, Federal B-Area. The victim’s brother lodged a case against unknown assailants at the area police station.

Quoting the victim’s brother, a duty officer at Mominabad police station said the dead man had no personal enmity with anyone.

His funeral prayers were held at Imambargah Khair-ul-Amal. He was buried in Wadi-i-Husain graveyard off Super Highway.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A student died and three others were injured in a road accident on Hub River road.

Police said four students of Hamdard University, Anis Qureshi, aged 19, Atif, age 22, Uzaif, aged 25, and Hasan Ali, aged 21, were returning to the city from the University when their car was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction.

The accident victims were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Anis dead. The other three were admitted to the hospital.

Police said the truck-driver escaped.

CARJACKING: Nine vehicles — five cars and four motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Four cars were hijacked in Clifton, Gizri, Risala and Gulshan-i-Iqbal. Another was stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Three motorcycles were stolen in Garden (two) and Defence (one). Another was hijacked in Korangi Industrial Area.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered three vehicles in the city.

ARRESTED: Police arrested three suspected car hijackers and recovered a hijacked vehicle from their possession in Dhorajee Society.

Police said a Toyota Hi-Ace (PE-1563) was hijacked on Sept 19 in Gulistan-i-Jauhar police limits. Police found the vehicle at a workshop in Dhorajee Society where it was being painted over. Its chassis and engine numbers were also tampered with.

Police arrested Ata Mohammed, Irfanul Haq and Khalil. The suspects told police that Anwar Hyderabadi bought stolen vehicles from them.

IDENTIFIED: An unknown man who was found shot dead in Mehmoodabad on Monday had been identified as Hamid Ali, aged 35, an inspector working at the Anti-car Lifting Cell, police said.

Police said Hamid was a resident of Mehmoodabad. Police had not clue to the motive for the killing.

FALLS TO DEATH: A man died when he fell from the roof of his house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday night.

Police said Akbar Khan, aged 50, had gone to the roof of his house to check water level in the overhead water tank when he lost his balance and fell on the ground.

The body was sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post- mortem.
