HYDERABAD, Jan 29: The chief of Shia Ulema Council, Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, has demanded formation of a judicial commission to investigate killings of innocent people and expose murderers and their patrons.

Talking to reporters in Tando Jehanian on Sunday, the Allama said people had been left at the mercy of target killers who spared no one, not even lawyers, doctors and traders.

Nobody knows who was the killer and at whose instigation people were being killed, he said. He said that he had told the authorities more than once that the terrorists were receiving training in certain camps but no action had so far been taken to dismantle them.

The Allama said the state’s writ was nowhere to be seen, robberies were being committed in broad daylight and people were being regularly kidnapped. The government itself was paying ransom to get its officials freed, he said.

The only progress, he said, Pakistan had made was in corruption index. The poor continue to groan under the burden of price hike but there is nobody in the government to listen to their woes. They have been deprived of even the most basic facilities, like education and health.

He said political confrontation was at its peak and the rulers appeared to be unable to solve people’s basic problems. It would be a miracle if transparent elections were held in the country, he said.

The Allama said if a commission could be formed to probe the ‘memo’ why the government could not set up a similar commission to look into incidents of target killings.

Answering a question about revival of MMA, he said that although the alliance had no authority it had rendered a great service by helping to curb terrorism and sectarianism.

He expressed the hope that the MMA would be revived at the time of elections. The present government should be allowed to complete its tenure to enable people to judge its performance, he said.

He said there was no rift between Shias and Sunnis but a particular group was trying to drive a wedge between them by carrying out target killings.

PARLIAMENTARY SECY: Parliamentary secretary for defence MNA Gul Mohammad Jakhrani has said that conspiracies are being hatched against the democratic government and rumours are being circulated that the government will soon be sent packing.

Talking to reporters after expressing condolences to the family of late MPA Syed Mohsin Bukhari in Tando Mohammad Khan, Mr Jakhrani said the ‘memogate’ issue had been raised to defame the government but all conspiracies would be foiled with people’s support.

He said the PPP had always struggled against dictatorship. President Asif Zardari is a symbol of federation who has foiled the nefarious designs of his opponents.

He said budget would be presented in June after senate elections and election schedule would be announced in December after completion of voters’ lists.

He said the government had introduced a scheme for interest free loan for the unemployed youth which would help them earn their own livelihood.
